In August of 2010, I was lucky enough to adopt this funny little guy (sight unseen from a shelter in Tennessee) and he’s turned our world around! Iggy’s shelter name was Rigatoni, but I couldn’t see myself calling for a pasta so I shortened it to Iggy Pup. We weren’t very familiar with the breed then or we would have known iggy was a generic term. Even given our lack of creativity in the name, it works. My husband, a confirmed cat lover, was rather put off by my adopting another dog but now he is as Iggy crazy as anyone. The amount of time spent researching the breed, finding the right foods, etc would amaze anyone who knew the grumpy anti-dog man he was previously. Iggy is just the most loveable, funny, crazy and wonderful little guy that he now has a huge neighborhood fan club and has melted even the hardest hearts of the jaded neighborhood cats. Without further ado…this is Iggy:

Iggy Pup

Iggy has an older sister. Sophie is a beautiful, Turkish Van cat who outweighs Iggy by a third of his body weight. I found Sophie crying in the middle of the street one day and tried to catch her but was unable. I put out a bed and food for her and soon found Sophie and two kittens in the bed. The kittens went to a good family and our sweet Sophie stayed here. She and Iggy play and are very good company for each other. Occasionally, she gets tired of the play and hides on top of the refrigerator for a respite.

<![CDATA[Introducing Tara]]> http://www.igrescueitems.com/blog/Tara-Shayer/

Remembering Tara (Marchwind Tara Tebo)

by Tara's mom (Deb Shayer)

My beloved Tara was born on March 17, 2002 and she left me to go to the Rainbow Bridge on July 13, 2007. My days with her were so special. Life will never be the same without her.

Tara was my first dog ever and my introduction to the wonderful world of Italian greyhounds. She was born on St. Patrick's Day, a Marchwind pup. A few months later, Tara came to Rhode Island to live with my friend and most favored breeder, Kathleen Thibeault of Tebo IGs. Tara was a show dog and she had one litter of 3 puppies. She was a wonderful mother and always enjoyed trying to nurse and mother small puppies during visits to Kathy's house even long after her pups were grown. When her puppies were weaned, Tara came to live with me. I had no idea how head over heels in love I'd fall for her.

Tara had so much love to give and her favorite thing to do was snuggle in my arms or lap and be patted. She got her Canine Good Citizen certificate and we became a certified pet therapy team. We visited a nursing home every week and Tara was even on the news for her work there. She also visited the school where I teach as a reward for the students. Tara was loved by all.

On Friday, July 13, 2007, Tara and I were on a walk in our neighborhood. A big, unleashed Bernese Mountain dog came bounding after Tara. She was terrified and pulled hard on her leash. Tara slipped her martingale and was hit by a car. She died instantly and a piece of my soul died with her.

Today I wear a necklace with a bone-shaped pendant. Some of Tara's ashes are in the pendant so I can have her close to my heart. I try to cherish every moment with Allie and Riley (my IGs) in Tara's memory. Tara's death taught me how fleeting life can be and I do not want to take one moment with my precious girls for granted.

Thank you for reading my tribute to my gorgeous girl. I have unbounding happy memories of Tara, but there will always be a sadness that she is no longer with me. She was so special.

I love you and miss you terribly, princess Tara, and I will see you again at the Bridge.

<![CDATA[Introducing Riley]]> http://www.igrescueitems.com/blog/Riley_Shayer/

Riley's page (Tebo Hearsay Ultra Riley)

by Riley's mom (Deb Shayer)

Riley is a gorgeous girl who was born on February 20, 2009. I would like to thank Kathleen Thibeault of Tebo IGs for breeding such a darling IG and for letting me take her into my home. Riley joined me and her sister, Allie, because Allie needed a buddy to help her with separation anxiety issues and Riley has certainly helped in that department.

Riley has brought lots of joy into my life with her spunky little personality and her sweet ways. I love her to pieces even though her potty manners leave something to be desired and she likes to chew and destroy her dog beds and my furniture. Riley is a special girl who loves to meet new friends and to romp with her sister. As she has grown, Riley has thankfully calmed down and she has also become more sensitive. When I am not doting on her with my full attention, Riley lets out the most pathetic whine. Of course, I have reinforced her whining by lavishing her with kisses every time she has done this!

Although I once believed I was a one-dog person, Riley has taught me the error in that belief. I so look forward to spending many more years with my baby Riley. She is everything I had dreamed of and more.

<![CDATA[Introducing Allie]]> http://www.igrescueitems.com/blog/Allie-Shayer/

Introducing "Allie" (Tebo Alegria Meritage)

by Allie's mom (Deb Shayer)

Allie was born on June 1, 2007 and soon after, she came to live with me. I was grieving the loss of my first IG, Tara, when Allie walked into my life and helped to heal my heart. Since that time, Allie has truly become a part of my soul. As a pup, Allie was very active, but she has settled into a calm and confident adult.

My beautiful Allie has a sensitive, endearing personality and a kiss and a tail-wag for everyone she meets. She is a constant cuddle-bug and she washes my whole face with kisses each night before she crawls under the covers to rest her head on my shoulder and fall asleep with my arm around her. Allie suffered from terrible separation anxiety when left alone, so I got her a sister named Riley for her second birthday. Just as I would have suspected, Allie is a perfect big sister to Riley. She has even forgiven Riley for breaking her leg during a rough play session! What a great little patient Allie was as she healed from that broken leg. Today, she runs and plays as if nothing ever happened.

I would like to thank Kathleen Thibeault of Tebo IGs for breeding such a little peach. She means the world to me. I love my Allie-cat to pieces and I'm so grateful and proud to be "Allie's mom."

<![CDATA[Gorgeous George]]> http://www.igrescueitems.com/blog/Gorgeous-George/ Announcing the arrival of 12 week old
Georgie Longhouse
aka Bo-Bett's Gorgeous George;
by a grateful Judy Longhouse

I have been granted a miracle in the form of an exquisite little Italian Greyhound puppy. His breeder named him "Gorgeous George".....and he truly is! Unlike most puppies this little fellow is not a trouble-maker. That role is reserved for "You Know Who". He is incredibly loving, well behaved and bright. This little man is truly amazing. He has an absolutely awesome temperament. There isn't a mean bone in his body. He is also amazingly sensitive to Gracie and her needs. He never jumps on her, scares her or bothers her in any way. She is almost 15....and doesn't always feel well. This little puppy understands that. It's a miracle.

And speaking of miracles....let me tell you how this adoption came about. Every year as soon as I get to Florida.... I call my friend, Carol Harris, at Bo-Bett farm. We always arrange a visit....and I go to Bo-Bett and get to play with some of the most beautiful Italian Greyhounds in Iggydom. I also have fun visiting with Carol, her wonderful human family and dedicated staff. Those visits are pure pleasure. This year I called with sad news. As I tried telling Carol about the loss of George the Greyt......I fell apart and had trouble getting the words out. She told me to quit the crying because he was already at Bo-Bett waiting for me. When I asked her who.....she said simply: "Gorgeous George". Carol had bred a little boy puppy with a temperament guaranteed to heal human pain. Gorgeous George was one of a litter of two, George and Barbara. She told me that he was "marked by the hand of God". Furthermore...where God is concerned...no money changes hands. Carol presented him to me as a gift of love. Here are her words:

“Gorgeous George is a living remembrance for not only Judy but for the entire world of IG Rescue. He is a fawn and white 3 month old; a small but mighty symbol of personality and pedigree that we all hope will help Judy Longhouse heal from the recent lose of her cherished friend, Pony Haven George Longhouse."

Carol gave him to me with her love. But she also gave him to all of you!!!! She knows that he will be shared in stories....and bring joy to many. The amazing thing is that Gorgeous George has a personality very similar to George the Greyt!!!! He is the same color and has very similar markings. However, Gorgeous George is his own little man with his own distinct personality.....and he is already deeply loved by me and my whole family. It is a tribute to George the Greyt that I was able to love another of his kind so quickly and so well. The Greyt one will live on in my heart forever. But I am so grateful to have Gorgeous George on this earth and in my arms. There is no way to ever thank Carol Harris enough for this beautiful gift of life. Love never dies....and love only grows.

Soooo...presenting to all of you: GORGEOUS GEORGE!!!!!!

<![CDATA[Gina]]> http://www.igrescueitems.com/blog/Gina/ Gina

Gina

February, 1994 - June 8, 2008

Gina was 8 mos. old when I adopted her from a local Humane Society. She was a shepherd-greyhound mix breed, but something just clicked that day I found her and decided to give her that chance at life she desperately needed. It didn't take long to find out that I had found a very unique and individualistic dog. She was a protector. a companion and a copilot. She made 14 of my 76 years a very beautiful, memorable experiance than can never be replaced nor forgotten. When you come into my house, as a stranger, you had better get a hug or a handshake, otherwise be prepared to be closely watched. However, that fateful Sunday morning, when I said "truck" , and she couldn't get up, I knew that the next ride was going to be the last, together. Gina, I will walk across that "Bridge" with you.

Inner Strength

If you can start the day without caffeine,

If you can get going without pep pills,

If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,

If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,

If you can eat the same food every day and be grateful for it,

If you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time,

If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,

If you can ignore a friend's limited education and never correct him,

If you can conquer tension without medical help,

If you can relax without imbibing,

If you can sleep without the use of drugs -

Then you are probably the family dog
